I literally had to sign off of twitter and the internet when I heard this earlier tonight! I was in tears. I just went offline. The sheer...SAVAGERY. The unfathomable brutality of this 'public servant' who terrorized this woman last friday night! But it doesn't even begin there. Here's what we now know: Sandra Bland having recently landed her dream job at her Alma Mater (Prairie View A&M University) and having relocated across the country back from the suburbs of Chicago back to Texas was driving home alone minding her OWN business. A state trooper (who for reasons I couldn't begin to understand has remained unidentified) alleges that he saw her change lanes without flashing a turn signal. With that 'justification' - he pulled her over. Now please pay attention to this part. From the linked article: "Bland had been pulled over in Prairie View, Texas, and previously state public safety officials had said she became argumentative and uncooperative so she was arrested on a charge of assaulting a public servant. " " 'She had become combative on the side of the road,' Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith said." She was arrested and charged with a 3RD DEGREE FELONY CHARGE ('assaulting a public servant') - not for actually...assaulting any one, but because this state trooper felt she was ARGUMENTATIVE!? He didn't like her 'attitude.' She was too 'uppity' for him. She was 'uncooperative.' THAT was the 'assault' according to the USA Today article. I'm. not. joking. The 'assault on a public servant' Sandra Bland was charged with was based on her ARGUING with this trooper...according to him. That's just the beginning. This is the part that made me sign off the internet for 6 hours. When Ms. Bland was pulled over for 'failing to signal when changing lanes' - she was apparently smoking a cigarette. When this state trooper walked to her car he then ordered her to put the cigarette out in a very gruff manner which she took exception to. That was the "argumentative" and "uncooperative" part for which this trooper charged her with 'felony assault' and made her spend three days in jail. Stay with me. Ms. Bland is still seated in the driver's seat of her vehicle while this trooper who didn't like her 'attitude' is directly outside... This officer incensed at her talking back to him 'snatches' her and pulls her out of her car THROUGH her car window! You read that correctly. This maniac pulls Sandra Bland out of her car THROUGH her car window! What's the source of this information? In the linked USA Today article - her friend LaVaughn Mosely is quoted: "I talked to her Friday (a week ago) and she was in good spirits," LaVaughn Mosely said. "Although she was incarcerated, she was in good spirits. She was looking forward to posting bond Saturday and getting out. So you don't go from that to hanging yourself." Mosely said she called him from jail Friday night and told him her version of what happened. "She was smoking when he pulled her over," Mosely said. "Told her to put her cigarette out. She had an exchange of words, and it just went downhill. She said he snatched her out of the window and slammed her on her face." He snatched her out the WINDOW. and SLAMMED her on her FACE!!!! The rest...you have all seen from the pedestrian bystander video. We know something serious did happen because The Texas Department of Public Safety said the trooper "violated the department's procedures regarding traffic stops and the department's courtesy policy," without specifying what procedures this trooper had violated. He was placed on desk duty for 'violating procedures' Not arrested himself. Not fired or prosecuted. And apparently still being paid. ...and what of the other trooper who jumped on her back with both knees? It is critical that dashboard camera footage be released as soon as possible. The Waller County DA is still on record taking an out of context Facebook video post of Ms. Bland's where she talks briefly about depression (and ends with a gospel message about believing in God to pull you through tough times!) and using that to insinuate Ms. Bland had a "mental illness!" I would scream how despicable that was if it all wasn't so unbelievable. The 'public servant' literally behaved like a maniac and terrorized this woman by pulling her through her car window!? How literally insane or full of hatred does one have to be to do something like that? Anger alone doesn't begin to suffice to explain this horrific behavior. On the police force? This man should be in jail. Now. He is a TERROR to the public - not a public servant. And the local DA's statement alleging "possible mental illness" from an out of context facebook quote is disgraceful and he needs to apologize to the family immediately. The local DA, Elton Mathis can be reached at @WallerCountyDA The names of the three 'public servants' who either, according to the posted online video or the testimony of those who spoke directly to Sandra Bland: - Pulled Sandra Bland through her car window. - Threw her on her face to the ground. - Jumped on her back with both knees. - Smashed her head to the ground multiple times. - Twisted her arms back so sharply she couldn't feel them. - Tried to Intimidate the bystander filming this ordeal. ...have NOT been released yet.
