Keep the protective terminal ponds at Rocky Flats

Keep the protective terminal ponds at Rocky Flats
The Issue
There are residual contaminants on the site of the former Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons site that is managed by the Department of Energy (DOE). Most notably, these are on the hillside of the 903 pad, where barrels of waste were once stored. These barrels leaked their oily, plutonium laden contents into the ground. Although the area has been cleaned up more than once, contaminants still remain, and the plutonium finds its way into Woman Creek. The system of ponds and dams keep these contaminants onsite and are protective of downstream water. It is estimated that is would cost the DOE $2.6 million dollars to remove all five of the dams on the Rocky Flats site, and it only costs about $17,000 annually to maintain the C-2 dam. Please leave C-2 and the others dams in place.
