A letter regarding recognition of the Yari religion and the yarsan religious community.
The Issue
To whom it may concern
Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) &
The European Parliament.
A letter regarding recognition of the Yari religion and the yarsan religious community.
The Yari religion originates from Western Iran (Kurdistan). It embodies a long established tradition of unique spiritual and cultural practices which have never formally been recognized by any state or governing institution.
As a part of the yarsan religious community with permanent residence in a European country I hereby grant authority the board of the Yarsan Religious council in Europe to represent our case with the relevant authorities and to work for recognition of our religion and community by the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the European Parliament.
I furthermore personally request that the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the European Parliament recognizes our religious community, as well as our spiritual and cultural traditions. In support of my request I refer to the Declaration of Human Rights of the 1948 UN Charter, which aims to protect religious minorities against discrimination and persecution from majority groups and state power.
As values of democracy, human rights and equality of law are becoming universally recognized, this recognition should also be applied to adherents of the Yari religion.
Sincerely,
Member of the Yarsan religious community
