Let “Shaka” be in emoji!

The Issue

Smiles language – “emoji”, which in Japanese means “a sign”, have become a part of our everyday life. Nowadays emoji is one of the most popular trends of communication in social network. Lots of people use emoji instead of words and in such a way express their emotions changing the whole sentence for smiles. In this way, smile has become a kind of a branded content. The number of emoji is growing from day to day in order to satisfy peoples’ needs. There are more than 300 symbols that are developed and added in updated system versions. Developers also paid attention to the issues of equality and tolerance. Almost all variations of symbols have 6 different types of skin color. Some of the symbols were changed. Among symbols meaning “family” you can find homosexual parents with and without kids. However, among all these symbols there is still no “shaka”.

“Shaka” is a salutatory gesture of a bulged thumb and little finger and index, middle and ring finger apressed to the palm. Shaka is a widely spreaded salutation gesture among surfers, sky divers etc. This gesture is very popular and in different countries it has its own meaning. For example, in America this gesture means letter Y, in China it means number 6, and in the rest of the world people use it to ask for a phone call. Also this gesture is common among sportsmen: surfers, snowboarders, kiters, skateboarders etc.

So if this sign is so widely spreaded and popular, why don’t we have it in the basic set of emoji? Why do surfers and other sportsmen have no opportunity to say “hi” to each other in virtual world using the usual sing?

If you like the idea, support it!

Let shaka be in emoji! Let it in the mass!
