Hello! I’m sure you’ll have been getting a number of emails recently from organisations and companies that you never knew you’d signed up to! And you may or may not recall that back in 2015 I started a petition to Make Britain Brilliant at the Internet. This was following my Dimbleby lecture, and you very kindly supported it, along with 10,614 others. Thank you! The whole point of the petition was to call for the creation of a public institution for the digital age. And I’m very proud to be telling you this now, some 3 years on, that institution - Doteveryone - actually exists and has been doing some really incredible work to achieve this original ambition and champion responsible technology for the good of everyone in society. Doteveryone is now at a stage where is has a lot of insight to share, in the form of blogs, research reports and at events. If you want to stay informed and up-to-date on this, please register your interest here. Also check out our blog, get involved and give us feedback because everyone is affected by the internet and technology, so everyone has a part to play! Doteveryone is made up of a small but dedicated team of researchers, designers, technologists and makers working on a whole range of projects, including the landmark ‘People, Power and Technology’ research, showing what people think and understand about technology, helping start-ups build ethics and social impact into their development cycle, as well as trying to make it easier for governments to embrace responsible technology by helping our public leaders become digital leaders. All this work is founded on the belief that in order to achieve a fairer internet, the tech industry, government and civil society must work together. Our latest newsletter, Society in the Loop, aims to help tie these sectors together and to start an ongoing conversation. I encourage you to sign up if you haven’t already! The fact Doteveryone has made it this far is largely due to you and your initial support for the creation of this cause. But we also know that we still have a long way to go. We are at a critical moment in the public relationship with the internet, and I am asking for your continued support to help us to shape a positive, responsible future for technology - and for all of us! Martha Lane Fox, Executive Chair Doteveryone is a charity and is grateful for the generous financial support of our partners which makes our work possible. https://doteveryone.us12.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=af7091994d8a0983477050a64&id=0e80ebd60d Find out more: www.doteveryone.org.uk | @doteveryoneuk
