When the Conservative and Liberal Democrats joined together to make the coalition government back in 2005 a promise was made; to hold a referendum to allow the people to decide if they wanted to reform the electoral system from the current FPTP (first past the post) system to one of the many PR (proportional representation) systems. Instead of keeping their promise, the government compromised on an AV (alternative vote) referendum. By doing so, they took away our choice of FPTP or PR and gave us a single, complicated option instead. The clue is in the name; proportional representation - it represents you, me, everyone in our country. First past the post - it is a race, and only those at the front win.

Today, we, the people of Great Britain, are not represented by our own Parliament. The only way to have our voice heard and to see the changes we want to see, is to elect representatives who will echo our concerns in parliament and not just be pulled by the puppetmasters from above. Our society has moved past the days of Labour or Conservative - we now live in a diverse country and are represented by various different political parties and individuals; so isn't it about time our electoral system reflects this?
