Coimbatore is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu and the 15th largest urban agglomeration in India with a metropolitan population of over 2 million. The city also houses the state's second largest IT industry after Chennai, is home to a number of industrial establishments, textile units, and heavy engineering units. As such, the city needs improved transport infrastructure to handle the growth. Therefore, more emphasis must be laid on providing proper Public Transport to the citizens.
