IMPORTANT UPDATE: Why I’m updating our petition to break the gridlock

Dear Supporters,
First, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the more than 1,300 of you who have joined this fight. When I first started this petition, I did it to honor the memory of my parents, Ramona Vazquez and Miguel Centeno. They worked in Los Angeles and Orange County sewing factories for 25 years, paying taxes and building a life for us, only to pass away in the shadows without ever realizing their dream of legal residency.
I originally launched this petition demanding Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Later, when the Dignity Act (H.R. 4393) was introduced with bipartisan momentum, I shifted our focus to that specific bill because it felt like the most viable proposal on the table.
But as the political landscape shifts in late 2026, we have to look closely at the math in Washington if we want a real chance at a breakthrough.
Why we are updating our focus today:
With the newly elected Congress set to take office this coming January, the reality is clear: clean, partisan bills face an absolute presidential veto. To bypass that veto, Congress needs a massive two-thirds supermajority vote in both chambers—a threshold neither party can reach alone.
If we hold out hope for a single, unyielding bill, millions of long-term undocumented residents and Dreamers who are now in their 40s and 50s will continue to grow old in a state of permanent uncertainty and fear. They cannot afford to wait through another legislative session of empty promises and political gridlock.
To win, we must demand a realistic compromise. To reflect this, I have updated our petition title to: "The Time is Now: Congress Must Pass Bipartisan Protections for Dreamers and Long-Term Residents."
We are shifting our focus to pressure congressional leadership to sit down across the aisle and forge a "grand compromise"—one that pairs the secure, balanced structural components of the Dignity Act with the urgent, direct protections of the Dream Act into a package that can actually clear the finish line.
How you can take action right now:
Share our updated petition: Please share the new link on X, Facebook, or via text. Let your network know we are pushing for an urgent, realistic compromise.
Post your reason for signing: Head back to our petition page and share why a bipartisan solution matters to your family.
My parents spent their lives working invisibly, but their legacy gives us a voice. We are not backing down from the ultimate goal—earned legal status and dignity—we are simply adapting our strategy to finally force Congress to act.
With profound gratitude,
Juan Carlos Centeno Vazquez
