Decolonize the School System

My name is Madyson, I'm a 15 year old, mixed Native, queer aspiring filmmaker from Toronto. For now, I'm politically angry. This petition is about Sir. John A MacDonald; how his name shouldn't be on anything other than his tombstone.
He may have been Canada's first Prime Minister but he does not need a school to be remembered as he lives on in Indigenous pain. There has been a ton of controversy on the possible removal of his name from Canadian schools before, but I strongly believe it would be a start in truth and reconciliation. Reconciliation starts in listening to the struggles and lasting trauma Indigenous bodies face.
Sir John A MacDonald passed the policy that started residential schools. He was an architect on the genocide of Indigenous Peoples across Canada. I acknowledge that his presence was a crucial and important role in the creation of Canada, but he is no hero. His name is not one that school children should be learning to celebrate.
I'm here to say: DECOLONIZE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM
