Five things you can do to help move us forward!
Pilar and the folks at United for Diploma Privilege are putting in work for our right to Diploma Privilege. Here's what they say you can do to help:
1. JULY 7: Write in and show up to the Supreme Court Meeting
Yesterday, the State Bar sent an email out to all registered test takers. Since some folx did not receive this email, I am attaching it here. Please circulate this information to your colleagues and submit a public comment by July 6 to CalBarExamPublicComment@calbar.ca.gov.
The public comment period will only be one minute each. The coalition has requested time to present the findings of our survey, (which is now closed) but have been rejected.
If we can have 5-10 people willing to relinquish their time in the service of the collective, please email our coalition email (united4diplomapriv@gmail.com) directly so that we can coordinate.
2. JULY 8: Call in day
Please join us in a CALL IN Day to let decision makers know that we need #DP4A now! We need to remind the State Bar of California, Board of Trustees, and legislators that Diploma Privilege is the safest and most equitable way forward. We'll be calling, tweeting, and emailing all day to make sure they hear our voices. We'll be sending a follow-up email shortly! Many thanks to Beth Patel for organizing!
3. JULY 13: Press Conference in Sacramento
We have a final date for our press conference in Sacramento. See more here! We already have one legislator attending - Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva. Thanks to Gio Chavez! If you'd like to become involved with the political mobilization team, please reach out. We need more folx!
4. To the extent comfortable, please write to employers!
One of the dynamics we have witnessed in Washington upon the granting of diploma privilege is that members of the Board of Governors now claim that licensure through diploma privilege will have a negative impact on Applicants' job prospects. To counter this narrative, we have decided to start collecting data.
We understand that not everyone will feel comfortable reaching out to employers and/or mentors, but for those who are, please use this outreach letter and circulate this survey. Once you have sent this out, please fill out this spreadsheet for us to track who is being contacted. Thank you to Stephano Medina for putting these materials together!
5. Write to Bar Associations
Bar Associations have an important voice in this work. Please see template here. Wendy Hernandezand Ashley Torres have been taking the lead on this, and we're already set up to give a presentation to the Bar Association of San Francisco tomorrow!
