Showing tonight (Monday 15 August 2022, at 8pm) on BBC1 Scotland. Features Tracey Gibbon and Ruth Hughes whose sons Kyle and Gordon have been detained in The State Hospital since 2009 and 2017 respectively. Also Sylvia Shirley McMahon and Karen Malcolm whose sons Jamie and Fraser are detained in Woodland View Hospital at Irvine.

Lucy Adams also interviews Jeremy Harris, whose autistic daughter Beth was isolated in a locked cell for 3 years in England, his only contact with her being through a hatch. And Kate Sainsbury, whose son Louis was brain-damaged from meningitis at birth and has spent 6 years in a locked hospital ward. Both have now been happily rehabilitated into the community.

At the conclusion, Jeremy says "If they can do it for Beth, why not for others?"
