Our new principal, with support from the school board, is attempting to paint over the murals in the fine arts hallway. He would like to re-paint Sequoyah and the people who will be painting the walls have said they will not take the time or care to cover the paintings with tape to protect them. These murals are a part of what makes the fine arts hallway what it is and need to stay. Each one was done by a different student portraying a different story or thing that they are passionate about. Senior Art students who have dedicated their time and care to the Arts program get selected to make their mark on the walls of Sequoyah. The artwork in this hallway symbolizes to anyone who walks into Sequoyah that the Fine Arts are an important part of what makes Sequoyah the school it is. The students have offered to paint the hallway themselves and/or tape around these beautiful murals to preserve them. Sequoyah Students love these murals and it would be such a disservice to the graduated and current seniors whose art will be painted over as well as the upcoming Sequoyah students who will never get to see these amazing pieces.
