Keep Music Alive
Jan 18, 2021

Last year, you told MPs on the House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee how the economics of music streaming are affecting you.

A poll by The Ivors Academy and Musicians’ Union revealed that 82% music creators earn less than £200 a year from streaming.

And artists including Chic legend Nile Rodgers, #BrokenRecord founder Tom Gray, Nadine Shah, Guy Garvey, Fiona Bevan and more answered MP questions on topics such as royalties, transparency, and the value of the song.

Tomorrow, the Major Labels take the stand

Representatives from Universal Music, Sony Music and Warner Music will be answering MP questions from 10am on Tuesday 19 January

Also appearing will be representatives from collection societies PRS for Music and PPL.

Watch live on Parliament TV

Follow The Ivors Academy and Musicians’ Union on Twitter for live commentary and analysis throughout.

Together we can #FixStreaming and #KeepMusicAlive

Once MPs have gathered evidence, they will put together a report with recommendations that the Government has to respond to.

We’ll be sharing ways for you to get involved, take action, and ensure music creators’ voices are heard every step of the way.

Until next time…

Thank you from the whole Keep Music Alive team at The Ivors Academy and Musicians’ Union.
