Prevent The Naming Of New And Future Warships After The City Of Plymouth

Prevent The Naming Of New And Future Warships After The City Of Plymouth
The Issue
To prevent the naming of any warship being named after the City of Plymouth. Based on the blatant disregard for the City of Plymouth's true Naval Heritage. Since 1988 and the decommisioning of " HMS Plymouth ", a fitting memorial to those who gave their lives during the Falklands Conflict in 1982. One of the last warships built in Devonport Dockyard, with a vibrant and important history and ties to this city, the last surviving Type 12 frigate from the Falklands conflict and indeed the last surviving Type 12 frigate. This city has done nothing to promote it's Naval Heritage, or indeed shown any interest ( other than for one year of berthing in Millbay Docks for HMS Plymouth as a tourist attraction after decommisioning ) in saving it's Naval Heritage. You only have to look at what this city has to offer compared to other towns and cities in the United Kingdom and Europe. A submarine , HMS Courageous, hidden away in Devonport Dockyard , open only to visitors on request. A Naval Heritage centre , again only open at certain times of the year. There is very little in the way , if any , advertisement for the same. To be quite frank , this city is not deserving of the name " Plymouth " to be given to any of Her Majesty's warships, until it can prove without any doubt what so ever, that it has earned the right to have a waship named after it. I ask you to sign this petition in honour of the fallen, serving and ex serving members of the Armed Forces. To the powers that be , I ask you to give due consideration to this plea and to prevent this potential insult ( in renaming a warship after Plymouth ) from becoming a reality. This is the vioce of the people speaking. Time for you to listen. There is no need to name a warship " Plymouth " , we already have one.
