3 Air Mauritius pilots have been dismissed with immediate effect after calling sick before their flights. In fact, on the 5th of October 2017, 11 pilots were sick leading to the cancellation of 4 flights.
The management of Air Mauritius considered this as an organised concerted action and took the decision to fire 3 of those 11 pilots with immediate effect.
No chance was given to these pilots to express themselves on the matter. No serious investigation was carried out.
The termination of their employment contract without any meaningful inquiry or the opportunity to give their explanation is unfair, arbitrary and a deliberate act of intimidation.
Moreover, one of the pilots who is expatriate, has received a letter coming from the Prime Minister and Immigration office, ending with immediate effect his permanent resident permit and asking him to live Mauritius by the first flight.
Though the said pilot has been able to get an injunction to postponed the deportation process, a police car is on stand-by in front of his house making as if he was a criminal.
Those measures are clearly non-democratic and completely baffle the human rights and we can't remain silent in the light of such injustice.
The rapidity of the sanctions and the cascading actions taken not only by the management but also by the Government of Mauritius show the dictatorship trend taken in Mauritius island which is suppose to be a democratic country.
The pilots of Air Mauritius have been operating at their maximum legal and physical limits due to a severe shortage of pilots. Furthermore, it seems that the morale of these pilots has been at its lowest in view of persistent attempt by Air Mauritius to baffle their employment rights.
This deleterious atmosphere has definitely led to extreme fatigue in the pilot community since several months. The management has chosen to turn a deaf ear to the pilots’ unions on these issues causing a direct impact to safety.
It is probably the perfect storm of circumstances that had lead to this situation of 11 pilots being sick on the same day.
But nothing justifies the fact of ending the contract of 3 pilots who have always work at their ultimate best during several years. (more than 15 years)
They each of them have families with kids and it is unfair to treat them like this.
This is why we asked for the reinstatement of the 3 pilots without any conditions.
Please sign and share this petition to re-establish democracy and human right in Mauritius for the sake of these 3 pilots but also for all those who love Mauritius.
