You honestly couldn't make this story up.

Hastings borough council met to discuss the bylaws which were to be ratified by full council tonight (13/7/22) for submission back to parliament.

But, only thanks to opponents of this dangerous plan was it confirmed that the bylaw wording in relation to all public parks and green spaces around the town was worded incorrectly.

In fact the wording was so ambiguous that it actually implied that cycling could be done ANYWHERE, in any of Hastings parks and gardens regardless or not of whether there was a  dedicated cycle path.

Had 3 of our dedicated supporters not brought this to light thanks to their vigilance and the fact that many of us subsequently highlighted this glaring error to our council representatives then by tomorrow morning these bylaws would have full council approval. Cycling could then have occurred anywhere from Warrior Square Gardens to the Country Park and everywhere in between.

So, what happens now is that there is a further day whilst HBC ensure they are satisfied that the bylaws do not permit cycling by default.

These bylaws then have to be signed off by full council and submitted back to parliament. A month or two after parliament approves this new legislation the council will then vote as to whether this shared cycle path is to proceed.

In the meantime we are taking further steps, in association with other organizations connected to Alexandra Park to ensure it doesn't.

Having passed 750 we now have 1000 signatures in sight and I know we have MANY more than that number who absolutely love our park just the way it is.
