At a time when many communities are feeling increasingly unsafe, it is essential that political leaders show fairness, restraint and accountability.
Muslim worshippers who were peacefully praying during a protest against Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visit to Australia were met with force by NSW Police. The incident caused deep distress across the Muslim community and raised serious concerns about the treatment of peaceful protesters, freedom of religion and the right to assemble.
NSW Premier Chris Minns must acknowledge the harm caused, apologise to the Muslim community, and support proper accountability for what occurred.
No community should be made to feel unsafe, humiliated or unheard when exercising its rights peacefully.
