Protection from the sun: We all know that exposure to the sun's harsh UV rays can cause sunburn and therefore lead to increased chances of the development of Skin Cancer. We need more protection than just sunblock and sunhats. A more sun safe environment is a necessity for New Zealand children living and playing in a country whose most serious form of cancer is Melanoma. New Zealand also has the highest incidence rate in the world.

Protection from the heat: Not ony would sun sails provide a cooler and more comfortable environment for children to play but they would keep the playground equipment from heating up to temperatures capable of burning children's delicate skin.  The playground equipment would also benefit from being sheltered from the weather and preserve it's life. 

Shade sails make playgrounds more asthetically pleasing. Adults can sit/play/watch in a more comfortable and safe environment also.
