Share your memories of the Cap to help us protect it from redevelopment!

A planning application has been made challenging the Cap’s unique status as an LGBTQ+ pub, club, and cabaret venue. Your memories of the Black Cap will be crucial in deciding whether this succeeds or fails.

The application argues that the Cap is really two separate ‘planning units’: a performance venue on the ground floor and an ordinary pub on all other floors. If this application succeeds, it could open the way for most of the building to be split off into a generic pub or wine bar without even needing planning permission. Or it could make it easier to get planning permission to turn part of the building into flats – which is exactly what the owner has admitted he wants to do.

Camden Council need your help to get a true picture of how the Black Cap has been used in the past, as two separate businesses or one unique integrated one.

We need as much detail as we can get, from as many friends of the Cap as we can reach. If you know others who remember the Cap too, please ask them to complete the questionnaire as well. The more evidence the Council have about the way the Black Cap operated as an LGBTQ+ business throughout the building, the more chance we have of resisting this new threat of redevelopment.
