The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MOF) : Stop the proposals for clearcut logging on Gambier Island
Gambier Island is a integral part of Howe Sound which is between Vancouver and Whistler. The Government of British Columbia has vastly increased clear cutting for raw log exports over the last decade and as one of the most beautiful areas on BC's West Coast the proposal to clear cut on this island demands a response on the part of citizens who are concerned about deforestation and climate change. I ask you to please sign this petition and if you have a moment to send a quick letter to the Minister of Forests - FLNR.Minister@gov.bc.ca
- Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources Operations
Howe Sound and Gambier Island are just part of the jewel of the West Coast of BC and as the Minister I urge you to reconsider the decision to solicit proposals to clear cut 3275 acres which include Gambier Lake itself. I ask you to stop this process and preserve this beautiful island for tourists and nature enthusiasts alike. To clear cut this area makes no sense from a economic perspective as the financial rewards from tourism will never end while clear cutting this area will only ensure that short term profit is gained for a few individuals. This does not make sense from the perspective of your government which should be working for the best interests of it's citizens and public in general, not individual companies and persons. I appreciate your time and consideration on this important matter.
