THE LEGACY OF LAST NAMES
The Issue
A call to Address Political Dynasties in the Philippines
I created this petition because I believe that political power should not stay within only a few families. In the Philippines, we often see members of the same families holding public positions, sometimes for many years.
Political dynasties are not a new issue in our country. The 1987 Philippine Constitution states that the State should provide equal access to opportunities for public service and prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law. However, there is still no specific national law that fully defines and regulates political dynasties.
For me, public office should be open to qualified Filipinos who genuinely want to serve. A person's family name should not be the only reason they have an advantage in politics. What should matter are their qualifications, experience, character, and willingness to serve the people.
As a young Filipino, I believe it is important for us to learn about this issue and not simply accept it as something normal in our politics. I created this petition to encourage more people, especially young people, to talk about political dynasties and why this issue deserves attention.
What I Am Asking For
Through this petition:
- More awareness about political dynasties in the Philippines
- More open discussions about how political dynasties can affect people's opportunities to enter public service
- Continued efforts to create clear laws that address political dynasties
- And fair opportunities for qualified Filipinos who want to serve the country.
I know that ending political dynasties is not something that can happen overnight. However, I believe that raising awareness and starting conversations can be a step toward change.
If you agree that this issue deserves more attention, I invite you to sign my petition and share it with others.
