John Robert Alexander Innes was prosecuted for raping and sexually violating my cousin who has only just turned 18 years old. From July 2007 till October 2012 she was abused several times. Even her own mother couldn’t provide safety to her daughter, even after she came forward to her mother that John was performing sexual activity with her. John even admitted to the mother Judith Noeline Annette Burnett that he had been having sex with her for a while now. The mother still did not protect her daughter. Despite being asked by a doctor if the girl was being abused and police visiting the home, Burnett still failed to tell anyone that her daughter was being abused. She was only sentenced to two years and one months in jail! As much as John tried to deny the sexual activity in court he could not prove that he did not have sex with her. The judge said “ The offending was a serious breach of trust, premeditated and violent in its nature, causing incalculable harm to his victim”. He shrugged his shoulders and shook his head as he was lead out of Palmerston North District Court and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

His parole is now coming up in December and we need to keep him behind bars to ensure the safety of my cousin as well as anyone that may come into contact with this man! He is a repeat offender and will likely take to another young innocent child!
