You have been a Liberal Party senator for the state of Tasmania since 2004. Prior to that time, you were an embalmer in Tasmania. And before that you were with the notorious Tasmania Police. During the time you were an embalmer (1995-2004), you were involved with embalming bodies of victims of the shooting incident at Port Arthur in Tasmania which took place in April 1996. On 11-12 March in 1997, a seminar addressing the said shooting incident at Port Arthur was held in Melbourne, Australia. It was organized by the Tasmania State Disaster Committee and sponsored by Emergency Management Australia. During that seminar, papers were presented to the people in attendance. After the seminar, these papers were compiled and published by Emergency Management Australia. The resultant book has 137 pages, it contains illustrations, and is titled: PORT ARTHUR SEMINAR PAPERS: A record of the proceedings of the Port Arthur Seminar, 11-12 March 1997, Melbourne, Victoria. The identification numbers for this book are: Dewey 363.3497809946; ISBN 0642271364; Libraries Australia ID 13206046. The paper Port Arthur Massacre – AFDA National Embalming Team – Detailed Report appears on pages 104 to 119 of said book. On the top of page 104, the name Stephen Parry and no other name appears with your name. It is followed by the descriptor Team Leader. Everything in this paper suggests you wrote it for the Port Arthur Seminar based on your experiences related to the embalming of the bodies of the official incident at Port Arthur. Your paper suggests you had a good understanding of your embalming tasks, you had a close working relationship with your fellow embalmers, and that there was good rapport between embalmers. On page 112 of said book, which is the middle of your paper, you state the following sentences: “I was particularly impressed by the quick response and initiatives by some of the team members in packaging and collecting equipment. The response time and the amount of equipment quickly relocated was fantastic. One firm in particular, Nelson Brothers, had organized for an embalming machine box and a special large equipment case to be manufactured ready for the incident. These two containers were the envy of all embalmers and worked extremely well. I would suggest that design specifications may be available from this firm for any future considerations by other firms.” (added emphasis) You say that the funeral services company Nelson Brothers had: “organized for an embalming machine box and a special large equipment case to be manufactured ready for the incident.” There is no uncertainty in your words. Said equipment was large, possessed significant design specifications, and was made prior to and for the incident at Port Arthur, Tasmania. You knew this in 1997. You possibly knew these facts in 1996 at the time you worked as the leader of a team responsible for embalming bodies (c.25) of the victims of the Port Arthur shooting incident. ___________________ YOU are herewith asked to SHOW CAUSE BY SWORN AFFIDAVIT why the people of Australia should not believe your words implying Nelson Brothers in Melbourne had prior knowledge of an incident in which the State would kill people, evidenced by that funeral services company having had special embalming equipment “manufactured ready for the incident.” If your Affidavit is not received by me on or before 16 March 2016, and if it does not contain verifiable references as well as the names of officials who support your position declared therein, it can only be concluded that you wrote the truth in your embalming paper.
