Most cyclists are law abiding when utilising our road systems however there are those who dangerously refuse to abide by the laws of the road and cause danger to themselves & place motorists & pedestrians in potentially dangerous situations. As motorists we are required to display plates which enable our vehicles to be identifiable & therefore be held accountable for our actions. The minority of cyclists who refuse to comply with the road rules, do so safe in the knowledge that they cannot be identified. I believe for the safety of all concerned, this needs to change. I am not seeking for cyclists to pay registration, simply that a plate be assigned against their drivers license or approved ID so that they can be identified. I believe this change would lead to greater compliance to road rules & subsequently less accidents & injuries. Only cyclists who deliberately ignore the rules of our roads should be against this.
