The Issue
WHEREAS The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation (“Foundation”) involves itself in humanitarian causes in the State of Hawaii;
WHEREAS the Foundation “is dedicated to supporting organizations that help people secure and keep quality jobs with opportunities for advancement”;
WHEREAS The Willows Restaurant (“Willows”) operating at 901 Hausten Street Honolulu, Hawaii 96826 since 4 July, 1944, is uniquely situated in the area known as Kapa’akea which has a rich history dating back to the time of Princess Kamamalu, sister of Kamehameha IV and V;
WHEREAS the Willows is also situated over environmentally and culturally significant natural artesian springs which serve to nourish the tropical plants at the restaurant grounds, and accentuate the unique outdoor dining experience found only at the Willows;
WHEREAS the Willows offers a dining experience in both setting, service and cuisine which young and old, malihini and kamaaina enjoy and appreciate, such that the restaurant has come to be known as a special gathering place for family and friends to enjoy fellowship and delicious local fare;
WHEREAS the Willows provides employment and experience in the hospitality and food and beverage industry – a community resource service which the Foundation supports;
WHEREAS the Foundation, known for its Aloha to the local people of Hawaii is considering selling the land upon which the Willows has provided the afore said unique hospitality, dining experience, and employment opportunities since 1944,
WE the undersigned, respectfully ask The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, to please reconsider the land sale and allow The Willows Restaurant, should its owners so desire, to continue operations at its current location at 901 Hausten Street Honolulu, Hawaii 96826
