The Grafton Regional Aquatic pool is an integral part of this community.

And Im expressing deep concern about a vital community asset – in regards to the recent closures of not only Grafton’s pool but the sourunding areas as well and the future of this important community resource.

What does the Aquatic centre mean for the members of this community?

I believe for many families in the Clarence Valley the pool was a highlight of summertime.

It was a safe haven for many, a place of inclusion, where our young children learn water safety and become confident swimmers; where our teenagers have the opportunity to learn lifeguarding skills and work summer jobs and , where our local students attend as part of their end of year Physical Education class, swimming carnivals social interaction, exercise, disability inclusion, stress relief, it serves the need for many people with medical conditions or a disability’s offering low impact exercise, a place of competition and camaraderie, brought divers groups together, opportunity to learn life skills, and a place where all residents could cool off while enjoying the outdoors during the long, hot days of summer. In a safe controlled environment, increasing safety in the community.

SWIMMING is a critical constitution of the community and social development programs.

These programs alone have shown to strengthen education, improve public health, address community safety, and promote intercultural exchange and augment social inclusion.
