To give Zimbabweans in the diaspora, the right to vote

The Issue

Over 4 million Zimbabweans, roughly a third of the population are living outside their home country. The exodus of millions was motivated by failing economic and political conditions. The diaspora sends millions of dollars in cash remittances to Zimbabwe. These remittances have kept the country afloat, and the government has acknowledged that without this financial support our country would be in a worse situation. The diaspora also provides support in skills and other non-monetary investments.

The Constitution:
Section 67 (3): "Every Zimbabwean citizen who is of or over eighteen years of age has the right-
(a) to vote in all elections and referendums to which this constitution or any other law applies, and to do so in secret; and
(b) to stand for public office and, if elected to hold such office.

As a result, we are asking that the government make provisions to allow for external voting for the diaspora. Voting is our right, enshrined and protected in the highest and most important law of our country.

To that end, in a united voice of millions we ask that the government legalize external voter registration and voting at our embassies around the world.

This petition is signed by Zimbabweans from all walks of life and across party lines. Our vote is our right.
