It has come to my knowledge that she has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after being held incommunicado in pre-trial detention for eight months. I would like to bring to your attention that the charges brought against her violate the right to freedom of expression as provided in international human rights law. I urge you to release Nguyễn Ngọc Như Quỳnh immediately and unconditionally as she is a prisoner of conscience held solely for her peaceful activities defending and promoting human rights. Furthermore I call on you to immediately reveal the whereabouts of Nguyễn Ngọc Như Quỳnh and ensure that, until she is released, she has access to a lawyer, her family and adequate medical care.
