1. Prosecute and bring to book the killers of Sub-Inspector Ramahloko, Lft. General Mahao, 2. Release all the abducted soldiers 3. Stop using state resources to facilitate terror in Lesotho 4. Provide a detailed response to this petition

The Issue

For almost a year now, the Kingdom of Lesotho has been subjected to a rule of terror by the military of Lesotho. On the night of August 30, one Mosotho male (Sub – Inspector Ramahloko) died at the hands of the Lesotho military in their purported effort to disarm the Police of arms that are said to have been intended for the use by youth. The plausibility of this narrative has not been questioned nor tested and has since resulted in more terror. More military personnel have been arrested and brutally abused by the military. Many were brought to courts in cuffs, bruised, and even bleeding. The last straw is the brutal killing of Lft. General Mahao. Who was shot in full view of his family by the army and now alleged to have resisted arrest.

We can no longer sit and wait and finance terror. We refuse for our taxes to be used to kill, hurt and subject us as a people to a rule of fear and the protection of criminals. We demand that the army of Lesotho be charged with the murders of Sub- Inspector Ramahloko and Lft. General Mahao and the abductions of military personnel.

We demand that the government remove Lft. General Kamoli as commander of the army as a move to ease the investigation into the killing of Sub- Inspector Ramahloko and the acts of August 30, 2014. We maintain our autonomy as a people. We are not to be associated with any political party or movement, but this has come to a point where it has become a matter of national concern.

We urge the AU, SADC, UN, EU, Commonwealth and other development institutions to appoint a task team that is fleshed with nationals’ representation, academia, independent organisations and local NGOs to seek to find a solution for the situation of Lesotho.

We are not just the people of Lesotho but persons who stand in solidarity with the people of Lesotho.
