#DontStoptheMusic – Music education is a right and not a privilege
Apr 16, 2015 — Dear Supporters,
We had a great first campaign win.
Together we made Ofsted listen to us (more than 70,000 of us!) who have signed up to Don’t Stop the Music. Because of your work, we helped guarantee that music is now part of the broad school curriculum that OFSTED inspect.
However, it can’t have escaped your attention that we’re heading towards a General Election. It is vital that we have enough petition signatures to tell whoever forms the next Government that music education matters.
Please take a moment to share this petition on Facebook, by email or on twitter
Music education is in desperate need of support from the Government.
When I was filming Don’t Stop the Music, I was deeply troubled by some of the challenges that faced our music teachers in schools.
I need your help to make sure the next Government gives every child the chance to access a high quality music education.
I am asking for your help now to make our voice as strong as possible.
If we have 100,000 people signed up to this campaign by the start of May, we will be able to make sure music education is not side-lined by a future Government.
So I am asking you to help children have the opportunity to play musical instruments, and I am asking you to forward this email to your friends and get them to sign up to the campaign.
Finally, I am delighted to announce that the campaign has now been reinforced by the support of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ism.org) and Music Industries Association (mia.org.uk) who have both agreed to help me run the campaign over the next few months which is great news.
PS: With the General Election only weeks away, and no-one knowing what the outcome might be, it's even more important that we make some noise together. Please do pass this on!
