Thank you SO much for your generous donations over the last few days!
Unfortunately, the threat of destitution is ever present and Mary & Myrtle are terrified. In order to avoid them becoming destitute, they need to raise £5,000 within 7 days:
Having lost Mary's husband Dave, they cannot survive on the meagre pension they get and due to Myrtle's immigration situation cannot claim vital state support - even though Mary has paid taxes.
In order to avoid this from happening, they need to raise an additional £5,000 within the next 7 days to make a legal case to enable them to access the care & support that they need.
Your support, however small, is absolutely vital!
Thank you SO much for donating and for sharing the fundraiser!
Background
In May last year, Mary’s husband of 33 years, Dave, passed away. Dave was an incredibly caring, brave and wonderful husband and son-in-law to Myrtle.
During the Pandemic, despite suffering from debilitating Parkinson’s, he worked part time as a frontline worker, a supermarket cashier, and supported the family financially and emotionally.
As a result of his death and the loss of his financial support to the household, Mary and Myrtle have fallen on hard times and are facing destitution.
Yet, even though Mary is a British citizen and Myrtle is in need of her care, Mary isn’t allowed to claim carer’s allowance because of Myrtle’s immigration situation. And Myrtle cannot get any additional home care as her health is getting worse.
With YOUR support, we can challenge this so that both Myrtle and Mary can get the necessary support.
Your kind donations have saved Myrtle in the past from being sent back to South Africa.
Now your support, however small, can enable Myrtle to live out her days with dignity, care and support without having to worry about becoming destitute.
