To #RestartTheRescue in the Mediterranean

This petition had 143 supporters

So far in 2015, 1,500 people are feared to have died in the Mediterranean. In 2014, 3,400 perished, the equivalent of two Titanics. It should be an absolute given that the EU helps those crossing the Mediterranean, and we should not have to be screaming about it. But alas, we are.

Political leaders need to urge the EU to restart the rescue. You can petition them through Save the Children's vital #RestartTheRescue campaign.

The climate of refugee and migrant hatred is intensifying. We've seen it from political parties, within the mainstream media. Refugees and migrants should not be seen as acceptable targets to direct hatred and bile at. This climate brings shame upon each and every one of us.

Whilst it is great that people are calling for Katie Hopkins to be removed as a Sun columnist  , it is far more important that the EU restarts the rescue in the Mediterranean.

Please act.
