When I was gathering evidence from residents in my community of New Greens regarding the safety of Green Lane I was sent several pictures of cars that had been legally and safely parked and then suddenly written-off by speeding and careless drivers.

The speed at which many drivers rage down Green Lane and Francis Ave to bypass the Harvester/Ancient Briton lights is excessive and well beyond the 30mph limit.

Imagine the danger to little lives if a further 4000 cars,  vans and buses are added.  That’s what will happen if St Albans School develops 1100 £1000,000 plus house on GREEN BELT land. 

I doubt if any of its profit, in excess of £75.000.000 will be used to fund teachers, SEND staff or school mental health professionals in local state schools.   Nor will it fund safe crossings for our children to navigate Green Lane and Francis Ave or create 20mph speed limits.

At a parish council meeting I did invite the Bursar of the school to come on the Bike Bus with me at 8.15 on a Friday morning and experience just how treacherous the cycle to school is for young people who don’t go to his private school but I have not had a response to my invite.

What it must be like to be so rich and live so high up in an ivory tower that you can ignore the safety of a whole community.
