We had once woken at the stroke of the mid-night hour in 1947, this mid-night however woke us to the dirty face of racism.

In a society already marred with heinous crimes against women, the protectors of the law themselves took it for a ride. The minsiter of state for Law Mr. Somanth Bharti, along with his goondas, trespassed into the house of a poor, black Ugandan woman and molested her. Another woman was accused of prositution and was forced to urinate infront of the mob. Drug test results cleared these ladies of any substance abuse, but the moral brigade of the hooligans had their judgements in their mob-court before anything else.

The concerned minister is still at loose and is making inflammatory speeches terming these poor women as prostitutes and drug-traffickers. The real tragedy is that the chief minister, instead of taking action, is defending the action of these goondas praising them with terms like "vigilant volunteers".  FIR has been lodged against 'unknown people' but we all know how easily will that be deflected.

This is the time when our collective conscience has taken a deep dive. Let us sign this petition and put pressure on the government to take strict action. Let us sign this petition to make India a country where any woman can walk freely without being called a prostitute. Let us sign this petition to make a society where we are not judged based on the color of our skin but what lies inside it.
