The Declaration of Regenerative Stewardship: A Global Call to SOIL and SEEDs Action

The Issue

In the cycle of nature, transformation is inevitable. The caterpillar - growing, consuming, and reaching its limits - reminds us of systems exhausted by overuse. The cocoon - a sacred pause for renewal - calls us to reimagine, reshape, and transform. And the butterfly, emerging with beauty and purpose, shows us the path forward: harmony between people, nature, and technology.

In recognition of the urgent need to restore balance and prosperity, we call for the establishment of governmental and privately funded initiatives to support Stewardship and Optimization of Intergenerational Land (SOIL) and Shared Ecosystems for Equitable Development (SEED).

  • SOIL represents government-funded and supported Community Land Trusts (CLTs), ensuring that land is safeguarded as a shared trust. Under SOIL, land remains affordable, protected, and equitably governed for housing, livelihoods, and environmental restoration. Communities are stewards, securing a foundation for future generations.
  • SEEDs represents Innovation Hubs - spaces where communities can develop solutions, start businesses, and foster regenerative economies. Supported by funding, partnerships, and policy, SEEDs nurture local entrepreneurship, encourage collaboration, and cultivate opportunities that grow prosperity while respecting the earth’s natural limits.

The SOIL and SEEDS actionable framework forms the foundation for a new era of collaboration and innovation, where communities are empowered to steward land and cultivate opportunity.

We call upon governments to lead with funding, support and policies, and upon investors to join with partnerships that allow SOIL to flourish and SEEDs to take root. Together, SOIL anchors the land in shared stewardship, and SEEDs bring life to the solutions of tomorrow.

Our Shared Beliefs

  • Land is a Sacred Trust: It is not a possession to extract, but a foundation to protect - nourishing homes, livelihoods, and ecosystems for generations to come.
  • Communities Are the Cocoon: They are the caretakers of transformation, where governance, innovation, equity and liberation shape a shared vision for the future.
  • Innovation is Our Flight: When grounded in purpose, creativity becomes the engine for regenerative economies, restored land, and a thriving humanity.
  • Governments and Investors Enable Transformation: Through funding, policy, and partnership, they unlock the potential for land and communities to take flight - resilient and renewed. National governments, development banks, and international bodies like the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) contribute financial support to launch large-scale SOIL and SEEDs initiatives.

Our Principles of Transformation

  • Regenerative Land Stewardship: Land shall be held in SOILs as shared commons - protected, affordable, and governed by the people.
  • Equity in Action: Every voice matters. Communities will shape their future through participatory governance, ensuring resources are distributed fairly and transparently.
  • Innovation with Integrity: Through SEEDs, creativity must solve real problems - fostering start-ups, economies, and ideas that regenerate life, not extract it.
  • Resilience for an Uncertain World: Systems adapt to change, from economic disruption to climate challenges, ensuring communities can endure and thrive.
  • Transparency Builds Trust: Governance, funding, and partnerships remain transparent, accountable, and guided by the principles of justice and fairness.

A Message to Youth: This is Your Future to Build

For young people, the dream of a secure future - a home, meaningful work, and a thriving planet - feels out of reach. Wages stagnate, housing costs soar, and crises mount. But this doesn’t have to define your future. The power to create something different is in your hands.

We have inherited a world in crisis, but within every challenge lies an opportunity. SOIL provides the foundation for equitable stewardship, and SEEDs sparks the innovations to build regenerative economies and thriving communities. Together, they offer the blueprint to create a future where people and the planet prosper.

This is our moment to create a legacy of shared well-being and ecological harmony. The choices we make today can transform the world for generations to come.

Call to Policymakers: Plant the SEEDs of Stewardship

This declaration invites you to pledge your commitment to shaping a regenerative future. Drawing inspiration from proven models like the Israeli Yozma, the U.S. National CLT Network, and Scotland's Right to Buy, we see that effective systems already exist and deliver results. What remains essential is the political will to bring them to life.

A Commitment to Transformation

Decision-makers, investors, pioneers, and stewards of the land - we stand united with a clear mission and resolute objectives:

  • To revitalize, starting with underutilized areas by transforming deserted villages, vacant urban spaces, and neglected rural lands into vibrant, sustainable communities;
  • To promote affordable housing that delivers long-term solutions addressing the global housing crisis;
  • To enhance governance and transparency through ethically designed technologies like blockchain and AI that minimize corruption, reduce human error, and build trust, ensuring AI assists human decision-making and accountability without displacing community leadership;
  • To foster community engagement by empowering local voices to actively shape decisions and cultivate stewardship; and
  • To ensure sustainable development through regenerative practices that harmonize environmental conservation with socio-economic growth.

Our Pledge to Act

We, the undersigned, pledge to:

  • Protect and Liberate the Land: Establish SOILs that transform land into a shared resource for affordable housing, regenerative economies, and ecological care.
  • Nurture Spaces for Renewal: Create SEEDs where communities come together to innovate and design solutions that serve all life.
  • Enable Through Policy and Investment: Advocate for governments and investors to fund and support these transformations, unlocking growth that benefits people and the planet alike.
  • Restore Balance and Resilience: Embed systems that adapt to challenges, ensuring stability and opportunity for future generations

The success of this declaration relies on partnerships between governments, investors, innovators, non-profits, indigenous leaders, change-makers, community stewards, and us all. We call on everyone to work in solidarity, co-governing the future of shared land (SOILs) and regenerative innovation hubs (SEEDs).

This is the Regenaissance - a declaration of actionable transformation and a pledge to act.

Our common target:

  • By 2030, SOIL and SEEDs initiatives aim to conserve 5 million hectares of shared land and provide affordable housing for 2 million families, contributing directly to the Bonn Challenge's goal of restoring 350 million hectares globally by 2030.
  • By 2040, SOIL and SEEDs will scale to conserve an additional 20 million hectares, protecting a total of 25 million hectares and ensuring resilient, equitable housing for 8 million families
  • By 2050, SOIL and SEEDs initiatives will further expand to restore an additional 50 million hectares, achieving a total of 75 million hectares under stewardship while providing affordable housing for 25 million families.

This approach ensures a harmonious balance between expansion, ecological restoration, and equitable development, creating a thriving legacy for future generations.

Let us begin. Let us live the Regenaissance.

The Decision-makers, Leaders, Stewards, Visionaries, Innovators and Builders of a Regenerative Future
