A few weeks ago, students at the University of Hull were told about the proposal to close the University Language Department, this proposal can only have disastrous consequences for the fantastic language staff team and current language students. Ultimately this proposal has wider reaching consequences of how much we value language learning in the UK, it is true that fewer students are choosing to study languages nationally; however, closing the University of Hull Language Department would only echo the rhetoric that learning languages is somewhat unnecessary and unimportant.
