STOP CANADA GOOSE FROM OPENING LONDON STORE

Canada Goose are hoping to open their first UK store on Regent's Street in London this autumn, acquiring the lease to a Crown Estate-owned unit. Britain is a nation of animal lovers, they are our loved ones and family members and we rightfully hold those who abuse animals in disgust. This is one of the many reasons why it is so dismaying that Canada Goose want to open their first shop here as they have become infamous for their fur trimmed parka jackets that use real fur from dogs that they have killed.
Wild coyotes trapped for the company’s fur-trimmed jackets can suffer for days and face blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by predators. Mothers desperate to get back to their starving pups have been known to chew off their own limbs to escape. Animals who don’t succumb to the elements, blood loss, infection, or predators are callously shot when the trapper returns – all for the fur trim on a Canada Goose coat.
The company uses infamous leg-hold traps, which although banned in many countries across the world for the pain they cause, are used by Canada Goose to catch the unsuspecting animals. Because traps are not selective, endangered species and pets can and do get caught.
Canada Goose jackets are also lined with down which comes from an industry where geese are plucked alive in order to get the soft layer of feathers closest to their skin. Once their feathers are ripped out, many of the birds, paralysed with fear, are left with gaping wounds - some even die as a result of the procedure. Workers often sew the birds’ skin back together without using any anaesthetics.
Buying down can also support the cruelty of the foie gras and meat industries because many farmers who raise birds for food make an extra profit by selling their feathers as well.
There are a multitude of cruelty free alternatives available, meaning that Canada Goose is responsible for unnecessarily hurting and killing animals all in the name of profit. We ask that The Crown Estate revoke their lease of the property that Canada Goose are hoping to open a store on and understand that the regressive idea that animals are here to be used as a fashion statement does not align with the progressive values of London.
