Petition updateTHE CONN ACTDental Care Shouldn’t Require 100% Disability

In January 2024, I learned that Veterans generally must be 100% service-connected to qualify for VA dental care.

This week, VA confirmed that only ~26% of the nearly 9 million Veterans enrolled in VA health care are eligible for dental services.

That means the majority of Veterans — many with chronic health conditions — receive no routine dental coverage, despite overwhelming evidence that oral health is essential to overall health.

I do want to acknowledge that VA is now openly addressing dental access and investing in a next-generation community care dental network. That matters.

But acknowledging the gap and fixing it are two different things. Preventive care shouldn’t require total disability.

Progress starts with honesty — and this is an important moment to have that conversation.
