Rebuild Syosset Park S-01 at Cold Spring Road and create a larger park using the sump.

The Issue

Syosset Park S-01 is located near the center of downtown Syosset and provides an open recreational area for the local community.  The photo above is of a proposed plan which provides for much needed improvements.  The links below show the current park located off of Cold Spring Road.

The park currently consists of a playground, basketball court, walking path, and open grass area.  Many use the park to walk to town on their morning commute, play on the playground and use the open field for sports.   The park is long overdue for an upgrade and requires more care than it has previously received.  Lighting is nonexistent for those walking through at night, and the playground equipment is unsafe for children and unusable on hot days.  Residents often find broken bottles left in the pebbles on the playground.

This park is unique in that it offers an open area in a downtown location unlike many other towns on Long Island.  An adjacent county sump also provides an option for adding further improvements to this downtown amenity.

Please join us in requesting the Town of Oyster Bay to make the following improvements reflected on the attached proposed plan and listed below:

-  Upgrade playground equipment and improve safety and surface material
-  Replace park trees and planting
-  Upgrade park fence to make a secure area for children to play
-  Improve basketball court
-  Add lamp post park lighting along paver walkway
-  Make a walkable path through the park lined with new park benches
-  Install seating areas and a gazebo around the sump
-  Clean out the sump and create an open area with walking path

I am a resident in the Flower Streets Section of Syosset and have been lobbying the town for years for these improvements.  This project will not only create a safer area for children and those who use the park daily, but will provide Syosset with a valuable town amenity for the entire community.   Many share this vision for an improved town center and this Park is an integral component.  An updated fence, added trees, and antique lamp posts would be more welcoming then the current neglected park.

Please join me in making this project a reality!
