Richmond Park, London – Aquayemi-Claude Akinsanya, a renowned social justice campaigner and advocate for local accountability, has called for a bi-election in Richmond Park after alleging a series of failures by the incumbent MP, Sarah Onley. Akinsanya claims that Onley has been non-active in addressing critical issues affecting the local community, including his own family's grave situation.

This development follows an ongoing investigation into Onley, initiated by the Liberal Democrats Standards Committee, for violations of the Ministerial Code of Practice. The investigation was prompted by complaints from Akinsanya, who highlights Onley’s failure to act or provide adequate support in the case of his siblings’ abduction on March 24, 2023.

In his statement, Akinsanya emphasized the ongoing neglect by Onley and the vulnerability of the Richmond Park constituency. "The lack of action from Sarah Onley has left the community exposed to unnecessary risks. The people of Richmond Park deserve a representative who prioritizes their safety and well-being. I am calling for a bi-election to ensure that our voices are heard," he said.

The Liberal Democrats Standards Committee’s inability to address these grave concerns has only fueled Akinsanya’s call for change. With a view to hold local leadership to higher standards of accountability, he is now appealing to the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, for further scrutiny and action.

Akinsanya’s call for a bi-election and his legal action reflect growing frustration within the community over the MP’s inaction. Constituents of Richmond Park are left questioning whether their elected official is truly fulfilling her duties and responsibilities.
