Federal stimulus package leaves Florida’s budget out in the cold

Although Democrats in Congress pushed for direct funding of state and local governments, some Republicans, including U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Naples, rejected the idea. Scott called such funding “blue state bailouts” that would subsidize the poor fiscal decisions of states run by Democrats, including unfunded pension liabilities in Illinois and high tax states like New Jersey.
