Florida sees slight decline in unemployment claims, still remains among top five states

Despite a small decline in first-time unemployment claims, Florida still remained among the top five states with the most claims last week.

The Sunshine State had 35,829 first-time claims for the week ending Sept. 19, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Labor. That is a decline of 1,436 claims from the previous week’s total of 37,265. Even with the decline, Florida still remains among the top five states for claims, where it has been for most of the pandemic.
