Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried: DeSantis froze me out of coronavirus plans

Regarding the state’s beleaguered unemployment system, which continues to be the cause of complaints among Florida residents who haven’t been able to sign up or have been having trouble receiving benefits, Fried said she took issue with the state hiring out-of-state temp workers to help bolster the system.

“I don’t really understand why in the world we would be hiring people from out of state to deal with our call center when we’ve got unemployment rates that skyrocketing here in the state of Florida,” she said. “I’d rather those jobs have gone to Floridians. Who made that decision?”
