Why this petition matters

Started by Kevin Peel

Bury Council has had £92 million cut from its budget since 2010 by the Tories in government, driven by their austerity agenda.

By 2020, this will have reached £100 million. A decade of wasted opportunity.

That is £100 million not being spent on protecting vulnerable children and adults, fixing our roads, keeping our streets clean, improving our parks and green spaces or investing in our cultural and leisure facilities.

Local services are at Breaking Point thanks to these crippling cuts, with no signs that things will get better.

The government need to halt and roll back the cuts to local councils like Bury and give them the funding they need to deliver vital frontline services to local communities.

Support the petition by James Frith MP and Bury Labour calling on the Chancellor to properly fund local councils in the upcoming Spending Review.
