An open house style meeting with the BLM left many locals disappointed and frustrated as officials made it clear that it was likely Kirkland Mining Company's Plan of Operations would be approved, stating that so far response for public comment was not huge. The official told the crowd of more than 100 that the fact that mining would devastate the area is not enough to prevent the mine. See 1874 Mining Act. One area of major concern is air pollution. Please email KIRKMPO@blm.gov with data-based comments. ERIONITE; The fact that ERIONITE, an obscure, little known, fibrous mineral that is found in Volcanic Tuff deposits has been tested for and documented to be present in seven locations of the same chain of deposits running from Bowie, AZ in the southeast to the northwest up to Wikieup, AZ. The Wikieup location is number 7 on the map of documented sites. Number 6 is 4.2 miles from Kirkland Junction in Peeples Valley. The Kirkland Mine deposits are between these two documented locations. There is a high possibility that this mineral, that is 800 times more hazardous than Asbestos, might be within these deposits to be mined here in Kirkland. *Unless testing for ERIONITE at the mine site is specifically carried out using a Scanning Electron Microscope equipped with and an energy dispersive X-ray analyzer that can discriminate fibrous ERIONITE FROM MORDENITE, CHABAZITE, AND CLINOPTILOITE that is in the deposits, we will not know the true dimension of the danger of disturbing these ancient deposits. ERIONITE is known to coexist with these minerals.
