Influence Pullman Regional Hospital Regarding Gender Reassignment Surgeries

The Issue

Pullman Regional Hospital is accepting public comment regarding the performance of gender reassignment surgery at Pullman Regional Hospital starting June 12 and ending July 3, 2017.

We would like to discourage them from offering these surgeries, even while we are grateful they have had the graciousness to be open to public comment.

To: the board of Pullman Regional Hospital

From: the undersigned

Thank you for inviting comments from the general public on the possibility that Pullman Regional will soon begin conducting sex reassignment surgeries. We appreciate this open approach to that taken by the governing body of Gritman Hospital, and are grateful for the opportunity to respond like this.
As believing Christians, we of course object to surgeries like this on scriptural and theological grounds. That is what we are assuming as we address you, but we want to make our appeal to you on another level.
We believe that a hospital should be a place of healing and rest, and not a place of turmoil and cultural conflict. What this action promises to do is to take a hot partisan conflict—of the kind that has already been tearing our country apart—and bring it into the halls of your hospital. This is tragic and unfortunate, and in our view completely unnecessary.
We have seen this kind of thing before, and are concerned that by pursuing this option, you are going to be alienating a large number of people, and will be making your hospital a very partisan place. In short, we believe that by adopting this procedure as part of your range of “treatment” options, you will be doing a great deal of damage to your reputation as simple healers.
In addition, because the country is divided on things like this, it is not surprising that medical professionals are divided on it. What this action would do is make it difficult, if not impossible, for traditional believers to work in a field where many of them are obviously called and gifted. So another concern of ours is the issue of how the religious conscience of such individuals will be respected, or not.
Thank you again for soliciting this input, and for hearing us out.
