BERMUDA - and friends of - we need your help more than ever ! The battle for equality and justice for the #LGBTQI community dates back a long time. In more recent times, starting with this petition, we have battled for equality for same-sex couples. The right to marry the person you love is a right that NO government should deny. Indeed we have won two supreme court decisions for SAME-SEX MARRIAGE. After the 1st victory on May 5th 2017, the OBA government decided to accept the ruling of the Bermuda Supreme Court. On July 18th 2017 the PLP won the election and set about on a journey to repeal the courts ruling with the Domestic Partnership Act. Imagine a government setting about on a course to reverse equality? The courts protected the rights of a minority whilst the Bermuda government set forth on a mission to reverse those rights. Fast forward to February of 2018 - after the Bermuda parliament voted to repeal same-sex marriage via the DPA - the Governor signed DPA into law on Feb 7th 2018. So same-sex marriage was denied. Bermuda became the 1st country in the world to reverse same=sex marriage via legislation. Another legal suit against the Bermuda government was launched in the Supreme Court. The lawyers argued that the government had violated sections of the Bermuda Constitution. Again we won. BUT...... the Chief Justice gave the government 6 weeks to file an appeal by July 18th 2018. The Bermuda government filed the appeal and this will be heard by the COURT of APPEAL probably this fall.
