Liana Hall made this comment a year ago after we launched the petition for SAME SEX MARRIAGE "This is the time to be on the right side of history. Prejudice and denial of human rights have no place in our society". Liana is a young black Bermudian, who like her father Julian Hall believes in EQUAL RIGHTS. Bermuda has come a long way from the days of slavery and the days of discrimination, be it based on race or gender, but we are not all there yet. Can you imagine IF the government of the day tried to only give half freedom to slaves? Slavery for 3 days, Freedom for four? Unimaginable ! The only answer for same sex couples, who love each other and who want to marry is to have the same rights of marriage as opposite sex couples. Civil Unions only go so far. The people trying to deny same sex couples, maintain they are trying to Preserve Marriage! Perhaps they should focus on just that. The divorce rate between men & women is approximately 50%. What we find astonishing is that the Bermuda Government granted charity status to Preserve Marriage, whose mission is to deny the Human Rights of same sex couples to marry.
