Australia NEEDS fast broadband, both now AND in the long term. The current NBN, of FTTH to 93% of Australians, and 7% wireless and satellite, completed by 2022 achieves this. The alternate policy of FTTN and a combination of HFC, copper and wireless already in existence and subsidised will not achieve this in the long term AND will put up prices and cost to the government and taxpayer in total.

FTTH now is more expensive now, but saves on total construction and upgrades with FTTN and on maintenance in the meantime. It brings ALL Australians into line on broadband speeds and allows for cheap and reliable broadband going forward for 20, 30 or 50 years.
