With little warning, the Minister for Defence Peter Dutton yesterday announced a new agreement with the US and UK that will take Australia one step closer to having nuclear submarines and is currently rushing this through Parliament.

The Exchange of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information Agreement allows the UK and the US to share nuclear submarine technology with another country for the first time. Dutton signed the agreement yesterday and tabled it in the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties for review.

However in a cynical move to avoid scrutiny Dutton only gave the Australian public until Nov. 26 (less than four days) to submit their thoughts on the agreement to the committee. That is why we need you to submit your opinions on Australia acquiring nuclear submarines now.
